Fraser’s Sunscreen Tips & dussl

Our recommendations for year round Sun Safety include covering up, wearing a hat and sunglasses, seeking shade and of course applying a good quality sunscreen. With so many options out there at various price points  we thought we’d share some advice..

Expert advice from dussl

We asked Fraser Wilson, founder and CEO of our skin care partner dussl for his top tips when it comes to buying Sunscreen and he was happy to oblige.

“When choosing a sunscreen, I’d advise looking for the following:

1. ‘Broad spectrum’ written on the label – this means that the product protects against UVA & UVB rays.

2. The Letters ‘UVA’ in a circle – in the UK & EU, this means that the product provides an adequate level for UVA protection relative to its SPF rating.

3. A clear SPF rating –  minimum SPF 30 or SPF 50 is what we recommend!

4. On the ingredient list, UV filters (like Butyl Methoxydibenzoylmethane aka. Avobenzone or Zinc Oxide) should be closer to the top (than the bottom) of the ingredient list of the product – this indicates a meaningful concentration in the formula.

5. Credible reviews – what have real customers said and how has their experience been? Look for photos and a range of reviews.

Remember that all SPF products sold in the UK/EU must meet regulated SPF testing standards and be registered as a ‘sunscreen’ product with the Office for Product Safety and Standards”.

Thanks Fraser for your useful advice

A final footnote here is be aware of ‘product expiry after opening’, its usually captured on the packaging and is usually 12 months
