Over the late May Bank Holiday weekend The Manchester Flower Festival was in full bloom, with floral displays and garden installations giving tributes to Manchester and cities across the world.
Café de Paris 1804 comes to St.Ann’s Square
The team at Constructing Minds, who brought the ‘1804 garden’ to RHS Tatton last year, transformed a fairly plain paved space in Manchester’s St. Ann’s square into a cool Parisian sun safe retreat.
The garden was cleverly planted with specimen trees, planters and shrubs of varying colours and textures, with a winding garden path through a green landscape leading to a branded cart and information stand for Melanoma UK.
A huge ‘merci beaucoup’ to Carolyn Harden, Jon Jarvis and all the team at Constructing Minds for creating a calm and shady oasis in the heart of bustling Manchester.
The garden was also on the doorstep of great friends of Melanoma UK, Watches of Switzerland, who kindly helped in the funding of the installation.. Thankyou !
Melanoma UK’s Stand in the 1804 Garden
Our stand was branded with bespoke information posters and set up as a ‘drop by – info hub’ for people to meet , chat and get information from Sun Safety tips to Skin checking, supported by a range of Melanoma UK collaterals.
We also provided information on Constructing Minds as well as a great Dussl skin care bundle, kindly donated by their CEO and founder Fraser Wilson for a free draw (now winging its way to the lucky winner). Thanks Fraser !
Here you can see Lindsey Brough (Ops and Amin officer) and Anita Miller (Trustee) setting up on a sunny Friday (day one).
Ambassadors Supporting Our Mission
Over the four days of the festival our fantastic team of volunteers did themselves and our charity proud, braving all that the typical Manchester weather could throw at them… and it did !
As a charity which wants to connect with people, spread awareness and help influence better UV safety and diligence on skin health, it was a great ‘Melanoma May‘ highlight for us.
Here you can see two of our Ambassadors David Uttley and Heather Doona on-point with the visiting public. There was lots of great feedback on the event and all the Melanoma UK team who supported it.
If this event influenced one person to be more U.V safe, check their skin or bring Melanoma to mind then mission accomplished, but we are pretty sure it did a lot more.
Check out our SM posts on the The Manchester Flower Festival and stay tuned for future Melanoma UK projects and investments supporting our charity objectives.
Thanks to everyone involved and especially all the awesome Melanoma UK team volunteers !
Lindsey Brough, Anita Miller, David Uttley, Heather Doona and Deborah Thomassen
Final thanks goes to Caitlin Holme, Louise Bruin (Events Producers – CityCo & Manchester City Centre Bid) and colleagues at CityCo for their support and guidance… thankyou all !
