On World Cancer Day the Department of Health and Social Care has launched the National Cancer Plan for England
The new long awaited plan has been cited as the most ambitious plan on cancer for a generation and has been developed in partnership with charities, clinicians and patients. Key deliverables of the plan will include:
Diagnosing Cancer Earlier
Providing Better Cancer Treatments
Helping People Live Well With Cancer
Focus on Prevention
For the first time every cancer patient in England will receive a personalised cancer plan, giving them tailored support from diagnosis through to recovery. This landmark plan recognises that cancer affects every part of a patient's life , not just their health, but their mental wellbeing, finances and their ability to return to work. It means care designed around patient's lives not the other way around.
Melanoma UK welcomes the Plan’s clear commitment to ‘rare and less common cancers’ a category which includes Melanoma. Reducing largely avoidable cancers must sit at the heart of an effective national strategy and we remain focussed to help deliver this through prevention, education / awareness and early detection. We are proud of our contributions to date including also our support of vital research and will look to do more in 2026 and beyond to help make a difference for all those affected by Melanoma.
