An All Party Political Group for Beauty and Wellbeing launches a formal inquiry into UV Safety.

The inquiry is dedicated to exploring UV safety in the UK, UV exposure and protection, UV education and misinformation, the affordability of UV protection products, the costs to the NHS of treating UV exposure, and a review of the way products and services that involve UV exposure are marketed.

Chair of the APPG, Carolyn Harris MP (seen here) said: ‘The beauty industry is one of the most under-recognised institutions, very little is taken notice of how much money the industry contributes to the UK economy, to mental health, to female employment and how important it is for everyone to look nice, and more importantly, feel nice. It was fantastic to launch the Beauty and Wellbeing APPG UV Safety inquiry in Parliament today, with colleagues joining alongside healthcare professionals, industry representatives and beauty influencers. The damage of overexposure to UV and the need for education is clear. The horrifying rise in cases of melanoma coupled with the fact that more than 85% of those cases are avoidable with the right protection highlights how vital this inquiry is.’

Melanoma UK at the APPG Kick off with Vita Liberata

Colin Glover represented Melanoma UK at this kick-off event following his attendance at a parliamentary roundtable in March this year.

Amongst many others it was really great to see Alysson Hogg (CEO and founder of Vita Liberata) who are in full support of the APPG and very active in their campaign ‘Ultra Violent’. Throughout May Vita Liberata are very kindly giving 20% of their online sales profits to Melanoma UK which will be an amazing contribution to our Charity.

The launch was well attended by  MPs, beauty industry professionals, business leaders and charities. The inquiry is now entering its evidence gathering stage up to 31st October 2025 and its expected that evidence of findings will be launched in Spring 2026 to support recommendations to the government.

Key areas of focus for the inquiry are:

  • The principle of UV safety is a basic need
  • The principle of UV safety is a year-round issue
  • The affordability and accessibility of UV safety
  • If a change in approach can help to relieve the burden on the NHS
  • The effectiveness of education on UV safety.

Evidence will be gathered from industry, public and medical organisations. If you would like to come forward to provide a ‘case study’ to potentially support written and oral evidence, contact us,  we’d  be happy to help.
