After a long delay the Horus Device donated to Norfolk and Norwich Hospital has gone into service with first clinics commencing 18th December 2024. The machine was donated in loving memory of Neil Evans whose family and friends set up a fundraiser in his name to purchase the machine for NNUHT after he passed away of Melanoma in June 2021 in Australia. The contributions to the fundraiser came from amazing efforts of family, friends, colleagues, various groups and business all coming together to fund the equipment. The Horus device uses ‘state of the art’ technology and will have a huge impact on the Hospital’s capabilities for early diagnosis and therefore outlooks for patients.

The opening ceremony was attended by some close family members including Neil’s parents Wendy and Stanley. Also attending was Neil’s former partner Sonia who launched the Neil Evans Melanoma Foundation in Australia, a registered charity dedicated to raising funds to support melanoma patients living there.

Consultant Dermatologist Dr Jennifer Garioch was delighted to see the device finally ‘handed over’ to her and the Team at NNUHT. Colin Glover (Head of Operations at Melanoma UK) gave special recognition to Wendy for her drive and determination to see the device in place and brought into use.

Final mention goes to Neil, a remarkable man who achieved so much in his all too short life but leaves behind great life changing legacies both overseas in his foundation in Australia and here in the UK with the provision of this machine at NNUHT.
