Evidence session at APPG inquiry
On July 16th Melanoma UK CEO Tracy Paine (MBE) and Shane McCormick (Melanoma UK ambassador) joined others in giving evidence at the All Party Parliamentary Inquiry into UV safety which was launched in May 2025 .
Shane gave valuable ‘lived experience’ evidence of his own Melanoma journey at the session and continues to actively support awareness in his profession in the construction and landscaping industry and beyond.
Tracy articulated the position that UV exposure must be treated with the seriousness of both a Health & Safety and a Public Health concern. Tracy referenced data and information from trusted sources such as CRUK and Manchester Cancer Research Centre and shared recommendations around strengthening guidance and legislation, improving education and access to screening.
Other witnesses at this session included Jessica Zbinden-Webster, Campaign Director for Axe the SPF Tax, Khadijat (Dija) Ayodele, Founder of Black Skin Directory
Evidence sessions will continue to October 2025 with evidence of findings expected to be launched / shared in Spring 2026.
The Secretariat for the inquiry are The British Beauty Council (thanking them for the photo) and the Chair is MP Carolyn Harris.
