The Ruthven Street Boys take on the Lisbon Marathon!

On the 6th of October 2024 Calum, Keir and Sean completed the Lisbon Marathon in aid of Melanoma UK. On the 6th of October 2024 Calum, Keir and Sean completed the Lisbon Marathon in aid of Melanoma UK. The three friends used to live together and always joked about running a marathon and now this joke has become a reality! To make their challenge more fun they requested that anyone who donated also left a song of their choice to add to their marathon playlist.

Collectively, they decided to fundraise for Melanoma UK, a charity that lies very close to Keir’s heart. In 2020, his dad was diagnosed with melanoma which was successfully excised following his diagnosis. However, in 2022, the cancer had returned, materialising into stage four metastatic melanoma, spreading to his liver. He commenced immunotherapy for this but sadly had to stop treatment due to co-morbid conditions acquired throughout the intense treatment. During this period, Keir’s dad fell into very ill health requiring multiple surgeries to help save his life. Fortunately, thanks to the help of many incredible medical professionals, he was able to begin to get healthier again, all whilst receiving no treatment for his cancer.

Amazingly, his cancer had gone into remission whilst receiving no aid through treatment and remains in remission to this day. Additionally all the boys managed to complete the marathon in under four hours and have raised an incredible £2,872 for Melanoma UK.
