Great news announced as part of our Charity’s mission, we are supporting new research projects in the fight against Melanoma !
Melanoma UK launched a ‘grants call’ in May, inviting a number of UK University / public research institutions to take part. We had a great response with several strong applications from across the UK going through for consideration. A multidisciplined, senior professional panel assessed and scored the entries with a final panel review preceding a decision by the MUK board of trustees.
The worthy winners for this grants call are…
University of Birmingham
The UoB research project explores the influence of a common virus, which may help Melanoma patients respond better to immunotherapy. This study explores how the virus affects tumours to improve treatment predictions and outcomes.
University of Manchester
The UoM research project looks at whether targeted drugs given before immune therapy can improve treatment for Melanoma that has spread to the liver by better preparing the immune system.
We thank all applicants for taking part and everyone involved in the process.
We hope to carry out further grants calls down-track and with the ongoing support of our fantastic fundraisers and partners, continue to invest in vital research to help make a difference and improve outcomes for Melanoma patients.
