Running the London Marathon for Melanoma UK is more than just a personal challenge—it's a tribute to my dad, a way to give back, and represent my family. Something my dad used to do when he was a boy was cycle alongside my grandad as he trained for his marathons.
Losing him to skin cancer when I was just a baby shaped so much of who I am. Growing up, I watched my mum navigate the immense challenge of raising me and my sister while also dealing with her own loss. She was incredibly strong, but she wasn't alone—she had support, and I know how vital that can be for families going through the same thing.
Because of my experience, I've always been hyper-aware of the dangers of skin cancer. Factor 50 sunscreen, avoiding sunbeds, and being vigilant about sun protection have all been second nature to me. But not everyone has that awareness or the support system, and that's why I want to use this opportunity to spread the message about prevention and early detection, along with helping families get through this difficult time.
Beyond the cause, running has become a huge part of my life. I thrive on setting big goals and pushing myself to achieve them, and this marathon is no exception. It's a way to honour my dad's memory, raise funds for an incredible charity, and remind people of the importance of skin cancer awareness. Melanoma UK provides crucial support to those diagnosed and their families, helping them through some of the hardest moments of their lives.
If I can help even one person take sun safety more seriously or support a family in need, then every mile of training, every blister, and every step of this marathon will be worth it. Thank you for supporting me on this journey.
I'm running the London Marathon for Melanoma UK, a cause deeply personal to me. I lost my dad to skin cancer when he was just 27, leaving my mum to raise me and my sister while dealing with her own grief. Now, at 25, I realise how young he was. Growing up without a father figure shaped me, but it also fuelled my passion for fitness. This race is in his memory, to raise awareness, and to help ensure no other family faces this alone.
